What is your name
What is the name of your business?
Emma Francis Weddings and Events
What town are you based in?
What is your speciality, service type?
Weddings and Event Planner, Bridal Beauty and Fitness
Did you have a previous career before you started your business?
I have been in the beauty industry for nine years before starting my wedding and event business. I have worked in salons, spas and hotels and now have a room in my house that I run my beauty business out of and also do mobile beauty for clients who prefer to be in their own home.
What year did you start your business?
What motivated and inspired you to start your business?
My absolute love for all things weddings. I love attending weddings, watching films about weddings of course planning weddings! I planned my own and loved every single minute of it, and I want more than anything to help brides create the day they are dreaming of.
What do you think were the 3 key steps you took to get everything going in the beginning?
A solid business plan, a website that is easy to use and keeping my branding strong throughout all my social medias and the website too.
What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business, attracting new customers?
The most effective way of raising awareness for my business is networking with suppliers, customers and other business owners. Social media as well is a huge marketing tool that I use to spread events and post pictures of things I love and am inspired by.
What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?
The challenges I have faced is remaining positive at all times, this I have found difficult especially because I am predominately working on my own so I don’t have anyone to bounce of and talk things through with.
If you could positively affect/change the wedding industry in one way what would it be?
I would love the wedding industry to become less competitive between suppliers and more about celebrating who we have within our industry. Promoting and encouraging other companies in a positive way.
What do you think is the key to your credibility in the wedding industry?
I am 100% honest with all my clients, I never take commission from suppliers and any discounts are passed immediately to my clients. This I find helps me create a great relationship with all of the people I work with when planning a wedding.
What do you wish you had known before you started this business?
It takes time, be patient!
Can you tell us about any habits you have/things you do, which set up success every day?
At the end of every week I sit back and talk to my husband about what I have achieved. Most of the time they are small things but unless I notice and appreciate them I get too overwhelmed and worried about what I have managed to achieve.
The most courageous thing i’ve ever done as an entrepreneur is…
Starting up my business properly! I have casually planned weddings and events before starting Emma Francis Wedding and Events but was never confident enough to say “Yes, I can do this as a profession”. When I finally decided to take the leap I was absolutely terrified but that is the thrill of it and it is what pushes you and motivates you everyday.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a hairdresser, I was obsessed with playing with people’s hair and looking at hair styles in magazines.
My favourite business tool/resource/book/podcast is…
My favourite book that what actually made me launch my business professionally is: The 5 Second Rule, by Mel Robbins.
My favourite quote is…
Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that made you smile.
If you could go anywhere tomorrow, where would it be?
The Trevi Fountain in Rome where my husband proposed.
If you could pick anyone, who would you most like to have dinner with?
My mum every single time! She is my inspiration and the strongest woman I know and I would listen and take her advice on anything.
What are your non-work habits that help you with your work-life balance?
I relieve all my stresses at the gym or during a spin class! I always love to fill up my spare time seeing friends and family and going on long walks with my cockapoo puppy Reggie!
What were you doing the last time you looked at a clock and realised you had lost all track of time?
Describe yourself in one word
What movie, no matter how many times you’ve seen it, do you have to watch when it’s on?
Love Actually. I am sucker for all things Christmas and love so this one is the perfect combination!
How to reach my potential clients.!
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?
No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, show up and never give up.
What single piece of advice would you give a newly engaged couple?
Enjoy and take in every moment of being engaged, it comes and goes in the blink of an eye. The stresses of planning should not overwhelm the fact that this is the happiest time of your lives so embrace it all!
The best piece of advice i’ve ever been given is…
Never try and be someone you’re not.
