The Portsmouth based wedding show for the style-savvy couple is on Sunday 28th of October. You can get tickets here. I can’t believe the awesome lineup Alex has created. With stylish, unique and quirky inspiration from over 40 exceptional suppliers showcasing. Our founder Tasha will be attending this time. We’d love to hear from you if you are also attending. You can connect with the HWC through our Instagram account @thehampshireweddingclub. Today, we’ve created a journal spotlight on Alex and The Wonderous magic. This event captures all that is bold, brave and creatively cool about the UK wedding industry. I urge you to embrace it, get involved with it, love it and support it.
WHAT MAKES THE WONDEROUS WEDDING FAIR SO BLOODY MARVELOUS?
Everyone knows there are plenty of vintage wedding shows for couples to go to across the UK. The vintage wedding style came into being well over a decade ago, so Alex wanted to create something different. Something with a modern and eclectic twist, yet epically chic. So she had to decide was out there for couples after the vintage tea service and the bunting? All change, please… Standing out from the crowd, having a different USP, finding a niche in an area outside London? Where to start? So the Wonderous Wedding Fair came into being, and where else to have it? Southsea of course, home to the South Coasts vintage vibrations. Where independent retailers create a laidback vibe. Where the streets are peppered with the cool, the retro and the past. You can find everything from reclaimable fireplaces to antique fishing kit. From boating paraphernalia, art deco statues, to enamel signs. Oh and don’t forget my fav killer bridal shoes from Freya Rose, at her chic Southsea boutique. Don’t forget this place is home to a community of epic coffee houses and small independent restaurant founders. Who chat and support each other in business and life. Freya took me to Southsea Coffee for a raw cake and a chat, I did not want to leave! Alex does not appear to pay much attention to the traditional white wedding world, know that is not her niche. Choosing to pay more attention to how life trends, media, and modern culture are impacting “WEDDINGHOOD”. You know the time between engagement and the big day, that can turn your head inside out and your heart upside down.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
The Wonderous Wedding Fair does have hip boho leanings, of course, it does. As soon as you create something “new” for the wedding industry. A public exhibition influenced by something other than mainstream bridal. You have to plan an extraordinary offering that talks to your ideal client, as well as the ideal client of the people exhibiting with you. Guess what, that is exactly what Alex has done. She has created something cool and local, chilled out and fun, which I love. We want to make sure though Alex does not want couples and brides to feel put off and ‘not cool’ enough to go along. There really is something for everyone. The Wonderous Wedding Fair is as much about you being in love and wanting a day that is authentic to you as anything else. A day that tells your love story and represents you as a couple. A day you have not simply plucked off Pinterest. Or copied from a wedding magazine that does not resonate with the life you lead, just because its a wedding. The kind of day that pleases Auntie Violet (who you last saw in 2005), but does not make you glow inside out in every way in the build up, creation and on the day.
To DO LIST QUEEN OR RABBIT IN HEADLIGHTS… IT DOES NOT MATTER
You could be recently engaged, or in the middle of planning. I don’t think it matters. Come along and have a great time. Take the approach that you both come taking the plunge to start thinking about what you both like (and don’t like!). Or come with your bride tribe and get some brilliant inspiration and ideas. You could also, of course, come along if you need to start booking suppliers. What would be better than finding your perfect florist at the show? Checking if she is available on your day and booking her there and then. Believe me, the happy vibes would go both ways because I guarantee she would be as delirious as you. An event like this is PERFECT for finding your finishing touches, as well as the OMG I need that biggies, such as your venue or your photographer. The Wonderous Wedding Fair has everything from cakes, to dresses, to flowers, to venues. It features accessories, bridesmaids, groomswear, shoes, stationery. Find your uber cool hair and makeup specialists, the DJs (no cheese), the band bands with all the feels. Be WOW’d by prop hire extroverts, or find the perfect wedding favours. Putting all that to one side, because I was running out of typing energy. The Wonderous Wedding Fair is the perfect dalliance to add to a damn good day out in Southsea. Remember we mentioned those great seaside vibes? The independent bars, yummy cafes, and the killer coffee!! Well that all sounds like a perfect Sunday to me! So… Race you?

We wanted our wedding to have some element of connection to a part of our lives. We also wanted a venue which would be unusual and memorable for our guests.
